Have you served in the Armed Services and experience symptoms of PTSD, moral injury, or re-adjustment issues?

Have you been feeling misunderstood, isolated, and unsure if you can trust again? If so, I would be honored for the opportunity to work with you.

After working within the DOD and VA system for 15 years, I have developed a passion for working with Veterans. While I have not personally served in the Armed Forces, I do believe that I have a good sense of the sacrifices you have made and I am familiar with many of the difficulties that are specific to Veterans. You will always be the expert in your own experience, however, it can help to have an ally who is well-trained in Veteran care and evidence-based approaches to help you heal from past traumas, integrate your major life experiences, and restore a sense of balance so that you may live the life you have always envisioned post-military service.

FAQs

  • "Trauma-focused" means that the treatment focuses on the traumatic event and what it means to you. The treatments with the largest evidence base are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). These have repeatedly been shown to be effective for PTSD above and beyond medications.

While not as heavily researched as those above, Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy and somatic therapy are also extremely effective in healing trauma.

Dr. Center has completed extensive training in each of these approaches.

  • PTSD and depression are the most publicized mental health conditions that Veterans face. However, as a psychologist operating within the VA healthcare system, I have worked with Veterans who struggle with readjustment to civilian life, loneliness and isolation, relationship difficulties, moral injury, and existential issues as well.

Psychologists are trained to help with many of these conditions and also in diagnostic clarity.

  • Mental health care is often stigmatized within the systems Veterans have traditionally been a part of. In addition, military members may have faced negative career consequences for seeking mental health treatment. Lastly, shortages in the mental health workforce can make it difficult for veterans to schedule a timely appointment. Some community providers aren't as extensively trained as they could be in evidence-based practices, and Veteran issues which means fewer Veterans are likely to receive the highest-quality care in the private sector.

  • While I am trained to provide these types of assessments, you likely do not need to pay an outside psychologist for these assessments. When you submit a claim for service connection, the VA will send you to a diagnostician specifically for these purposes to complete your DBQ and diagnostic assessment.

If we are working together and it is clinically indicated AND you provide consent for documentation sharing, I would be happy to work with your claims rep to share relevant information.
